Why the 911 ended up the colour of a blueberry

I get asked all the time, and the answer is simpler than it looks.

When I commissioned the rebuild from Theon Design I had to choose a colour, and that decision took longer than anyone would imagine. In the end I chose violet for the most obvious reason: it is the colour of the fruit that paid for the car.

My obsession with cars began when I lived with my grandparents in Valparaíso. My nonno and an uncle had several classic scale models I was forbidden to play with, and which I ended up admiring instead.

My training as a designer taught me how much the harmony between the substance and the form of an object matters. Cars are, for me, the perfect marriage of those two variables: a poorly balanced one will hardly go down in history as a great car.

That is also why I do not understand the obsession with low-mileage cars. Porsches were built first to be driven and second to be admired.
